01 / IMPORT

Start with lines.

Use a stroked SVG for automatic conversion, or trace a photo with the drawing tool. Filled shapes aren’t converted into outlines.

02 / REFINE

Keep the character.

Compare the original with the snapped chart. Move shared points, split long lines and check small details before you stitch.

03 / MAKE

Take it to your fabric.

Download SVG or PNG, print a numbered chart, or save a project to edit another day.

Questions

Can you turn a photo or scan into a chart?

Not automatically. A PNG, JPG or WebP opens as a faint reference behind the grid. Choose Draw and tap along each line you want to stitch. Only SVG line drawings convert automatically.

Which SVG drawings convert well?

Plain SVGs with stroked paths: lines, polylines, circles, rectangles and curves. Filled shapes aren’t treated as lines, and lettering has to be turned into stroked paths first. Files must be under 5 MB.

What do Half, Whole and Fine point placement mean?

Half squares, the default, put every point on a hole or a square centre, so the chart can be stitched as drawn. Whole squares use only the main grid intersections. Fine uses 1/10-square steps for close tracing; switch back to Half or Whole and press Apply grid or Resize chart before printing.

How big will the stitched design be?

Chart squares × work-over ÷ fabric count gives the width or height in inches. For example, 56 squares on 14-count Aida, over one, is 4 inches (10.16 cm). The editor shows this for the chart area only; add your border and finishing allowance.

How do you print or save a chart?

Export chart offers an SVG or PNG with a numbered grid, an editable project file to continue later, and Print / save as PDF. Larger charts print as A4 detail pages with two-square overlaps; print them at 100% for 5 mm squares.

Does Backstitch match thread colours?

No. The line colour is a preview, not a DMC or other thread-brand match. Backstitch drafts single-colour backstitch charts; it is not a photo-to-cross-stitch converter.

YOUR PATTERN

Ready when you are.

Download a numbered chart, or save an editable project to continue later.

For a PDF, choose “Save as PDF” in your browser’s print window. Detailed pages use 5 mm squares and a two-square overlap.

Replace this chart?
