For Google Photos Takeout and Snapchat memories
Put dates and places back in your photos.
Your Google Takeout or Snapchat export still knows when and where each picture was taken. DateMend writes the dates back into your photos and videos, and the places into your photos. Everything stays on your device.
Add your export
Add all the ZIP files from the export at once, or the folder you unpacked them into.
Or drop them here.
Nothing is uploaded. Your export stays unchanged; you save fixed copies.

Why this happens
Your export can hold the missing dates and places.
Google Takeout can keep dates and places in JSON files beside the pictures. Snapchat can list them in memories_history.json. Photo apps may ignore those files, leaving missing capture dates or map positions.
DateMend matches that information to your files, restores supported capture dates and adds missing photo locations. Save as ZIP to carry modified dates with the copies. Existing photo locations are kept.
Questions
What should I add to DateMend?
Add all ZIP parts of your Google Photos Takeout or Snapchat Memories export together, or select the folder you unpacked them into. Include both the photos and videos and their JSON metadata files. A photo and its metadata can be in different ZIP parts. Ordinary photo folders can also use existing capture dates and the optional file-name or modified-date fallbacks.
How do I export Google Photos?
Open Google Takeout, select Google Photos and choose ZIP as the file type. Download every part, including the JSON files. Keep your originals until you have checked the fixed copies. Google's export instructions explain the download options.
How do I export Snapchat Memories?
On accounts.snapchat.com, open My Data, enable Export your Memories and include JSON metadata if that option is offered. Choose the full date range and download the export when it is ready. Some exports provide an index.html with links: open it and download the actual memories too. DateMend needs those media files alongside memories_history.json; links alone are not enough. See Snapchat's instructions.
Which dates and locations can it restore?
JPEG and PNG photos can receive a capture date and missing GPS coordinates from the export. MP4 and MOV videos can receive dates; locations are not added to videos. Other formats, including HEIC, are copied without changing their contents. A known date can still be used as their modified date in the ZIP. Locations already inside supported photos are kept. A place absent from the export cannot be recovered.
Will dates already inside my photos be changed?
Existing JPEG and PNG capture dates are kept by default. Select Replace dates already inside photos to use a Google export date instead. Snapchat export dates take priority automatically. The date source and export location appear in the check table. Check a few saved copies in your photo app before importing the whole batch.
What is the difference between date taken and file dates?
Date taken is stored inside a supported photo. Date modified and Date created belong to the file on your computer and may change when it is copied or edited. DateMend writes capture dates inside supported files and includes modified dates in the ZIP; extracting it normally restores those modified dates. Date created becomes the moment you unpack. On Windows, modified dates before 1980 don’t survive the ZIP.
Can I save straight into a folder?
Yes, in Chrome and Edge on a computer. The dates and places inside the copies are fixed, but a browser can’t set a file’s created or modified date. If those matter, save as ZIP. Or open Advanced: folder file dates, include the scripts and run one once after saving: on Windows it sets the created and modified dates, on Mac or Linux the modified date. Your browser or computer may block the scripts. Files already in the folder are never overwritten.
Why do screenshots or ordinary photo folders have no capture date?
They may only have a file modified date, which is shown separately. If that matches when the picture was made, select Use existing file modified dates to write it into the saved copy as its date taken. Leave this off if the date is from a later edit, copy or download. It isn’t offered for Google or Snapchat exports, where the modified date is the day of the export. A date in a file name is another optional fallback; a WhatsApp name with only a day uses noon. Export and embedded capture dates take priority. File created dates are never used.
What happens to Snapchat captions and stickers?
For photos, the option puts the separate caption or sticker image back on the picture and saves a JPEG. Turn it off to keep the images separate. For videos, the overlay is always saved separately beside the video; it is not burned into the video.
Which time zone is used?
New dates from exports use your computer's time zone and its offset. Existing dates inside supported photos are shown as recorded by the camera. A photo taken abroad may show a different local clock time when its UTC export date is used.
Are my files uploaded or changed?
No. Photos, videos and metadata are processed on your device. The originals stay unchanged; you save new copies as a ZIP or into a chosen folder. JSON metadata is used to repair the files and left out of the output. Optional date scripts are included only if you select them.
How large an export can I process?
Chrome and Edge on a computer can stream the output ZIP to disk. Large exports still depend on free disk space, memory and the size of individual files. Other browsers hold the ZIP in memory, with a limit of about 2 GB. If you need to work in batches, keep the matching JSON files with each batch of photos and videos.
